They have lived through the political turmoil and cultural upheavals of the 20th century and have learned to question many things that seemed self-evident in their childhood. On the other hand, every personal life experience continues to weave into the fabric of existing and new belief patterns. Life presents challenges that demand answers, especially for older people and those in need of care. The freedom to profess faith in Jesus knows no age limits.

And that’s what we’re here for! For our seniors, who have experienced and endured so much in their lives, who may feel lonely and abandoned. Who are afraid of what comes “after”… or who simply have questions.

To our society, you seem to be a burden—but before God, you are just as valuable as any young person who is still working. On the contrary, if your generation had been as selfish and focused on “self-realization” as most people are today, only God knows which of us would even be in this world!

The elderly people mentioned in the Bible cannot be lumped together any more than today’s elderly. Neither does biblical age guarantee wisdom, nor is it necessarily associated with confusion and stubbornness. Only one thing is certain: “God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; and he created them male and female” (Genesis 1:27). This closeness to the Creator is not negated by age.

No matter what you have done in your life, if you wholeheartedly confess Jesus as Lord and repent of your sins, God will forgive them and take you as His children. This is shown, for example, in Paul’s letter to the Romans:

Reconciled with God

1 Now that we have been acquitted of our guilt through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
2 We can trust him; he has opened the door to this new life for us. We have accepted this gift in faith. And what is more, we will one day share in God’s glory. This hope fills us with joy and pride.
3 But we are not only grateful for this. We also thank God for the suffering we must endure because of our faith. For suffering makes us patient,
4 and patience deepens and strengthens our faith, which in turn gives us hope.
5 And this hope is not in vain. For we have been given the Holy Spirit, and through him God has filled our hearts with his love.
6 Even when we were still helplessly enslaved to sin, Christ died for us godless people at the right time.
7 Hardly any of us would die for another person, even if he were innocent. It may happen that someone sacrifices his life for a very kind person.
8 But God demonstrated his great love for us in that Christ died for us while we were still sinners.
9 If we are now accepted by God because Jesus shed his blood for us, then we will certainly be saved from God’s wrath on the coming day of judgment.

10 When we were still his enemies, God reconciled us to himself through the death of his Son. How much more, now that we are at peace with God, will we be saved on the day of judgment, since Christ has been raised and lives.
11 But that is not the only reason to praise and thank God: we are already reconciled to God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Adam brought death—Christ brings life

12 Through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men.
13 So then, sin was in the world before the law was given, but where there is no law, there is no reckoning of guilt.
14 Nevertheless, all people from Adam to Moses were also subject to death, even though they did not consciously act against God’s will as Adam did. Adam’s guilt had consequences for all people. In this respect, he is the exact opposite of Christ, who redeemed us.
15 Of course, the redemption that Christ has given us cannot be compared to Adam’s sin. For through the sin of one man, all humanity was delivered to death; but through Jesus Christ, we experienced God’s mercy and love in abundance.
16 Therefore, one cannot equate redemption through Christ with Adam’s sin. God’s judgment brought condemnation because of Adam’s one sin; what Christ did brought acquittal despite countless sins.
17 But if the disobedience of one man led to the reign of death, how much more will all those who have experienced God’s abundant mercy and forgiveness live through Jesus Christ and reign with him one day.
18 So it is clear that through the sin of one man, all men have fallen into death and destruction. But through the redeeming act of one man, all are reconciled to God and receive new life.
19 Or, to put it another way, through Adam’s disobedience, all men became guilty before God; but because Jesus Christ was obedient, they are acquitted by God.
20 The law was added later to increase the effect of sin. For where the full power of sin was revealed, God’s mercy was also revealed in all its greatness.
21 Where sin once ruled over all people and brought them death, God’s grace now reigns. God acquits us of our guilt and grants us eternal life through Jesus Christ, our Lord.

If you are interested in learning more, have questions, or simply want to write to me, here is my email address:

webmaster@Lion-of-Judah.eu

Be blessed in Jesus name!

Aging women and men have not remained unaffected by the upheavals of our (post-)modern age with its tendency toward plurality, secularity, and individuality.
